HIROSHI IKEDA

Founder and Chief Instructor of Boulder Aikikai, Ikeda shihan travels extensively as a guest instructor, conducting Aikido seminars at dojos around the world. In 2016 he joined the Aikido Shimbokukai organization as Vice President, working very closely with its Director, Lisa Tomoleoni shihan.
He began studying Aikido when he was a student at Kokugakuin University. In 1969, he joined Saotome Shihan's Reimeijuku Dojo and in 1976 he moved permanently to the United States, becoming an instructor at Sarasota Aikikai and Vice President of the Aikido Schools of Ueshiba organization.
After moving to Boulder, Colorado in 1980, he started Boulder Aikikai, a non-profit educational organization and Aikido school, and spent the following 40 years traveling extensively throughout the United States and the world promoting Aikido’s philosophy of non-violence, peace, and self-development through constant training. He has also founded several companies and organizations, including Bu Jin Design and Aikido Bridge, an organization created to bring together teachers and students from different Aikido organizations and backgrounds to share their skills, build friendships, and support the future growth of Aikido.

TRES HOFMEISTER
7th Dan
Hofmeister sensei began training aikido in 1978, and started studying under Hiroshi Ikeda shihan at Boulder Aikikai in 1980. He is also a student of Saotome shihan and is a senior instructor for Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU), teaching regularly at Boulder Aikikai and at seminars throughout North America and abroad.
Hofmeister sensei is a certified practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method® and has a particular interest in the process of learning in Aikido and its relationship to self-understanding.
